Independent evaluation of the Kahne bolus

Dr John Gaughan of the University of Queensland (Australia) independently evaluated the performance of the Kahne wireless technology in six cattle on a diet of high quality roughage and grain.

In his assessment, Dr Gaughan summarised ‘’the technology was shown to accurately record rumen temperature, pH and pressure… the data obtained agrees with the published literature for rumen pH and temperature… and that the [Kahne] bolus has the potential to increase our understanding of rumen dynamics’’. Finally, Dr Gaughan concluded ‘’the technology has very good application for ruminant research, especially in rumen fistulated cattle and sheep… and would strongly recommend its use to others’’.
